Rain played foul play to deny a thriller
It was supposed to be the final chapter of a gripping five-match T20I series, but instead, nature had the last word. At The Gabba in Brisbane, the 5th T20I between India and Australia was abandoned due to persistent rain and lightning, handing India a 2-1 series victory.
India entered the match with a 2-1 lead and the chance to wrap up the tour in style. Australia, desperate to level the series, won the toss and chose to field — but the weather never gave the contest a chance to develop meaningfully. India were 52/0 in 4.5 overs when play was officially called off.
The wash-out left spectators disappointed but it didn’t diminish the significance of the result: India extended their unbeaten T20I series streak in Australia and closed out the tour on a high.
For Australia, the frustration will linger. They had moments of promise during the series but couldn’t force the decider. For India, the victory signals depth, resilience and belief ahead of bigger targets.
In the end, the scoreboard shows “No Result,” but what matters most is the series win — and India walk away with momentum, while Australia must regroup.
