ICC Fines Haris Rauf, Warns Sahibzada Farhan Over Asia Cup Conduct
- September 27, 2025
Dubai, September 26, 2025 – The International Cricket Council (ICC) has taken disciplinary action against Pakistan’s Haris Rauf and Sahibzada Farhan. This was done in the light of their conduct during the Asia Cup 2025 Super Four clash against India. The ICC fines Rauf 30% of his match fee, while Farhan receives a formal warning.
What Triggered the ICC’s Decision
During the fiery contest, Rauf mimicked a fighter jet gesture after dismissals. Meanwhile, Farhan marked his half-century with a gun-shot celebration. Both acts were viewed as provocative, and the BCCI filed a complaint soon after. As a result, the ICC initiated a review.

The Hearing and Verdict
Match referee Richie Richardson oversaw the hearing. After examining video evidence and listening to both sides, the ICC declared Rauf guilty of a Level 1 breach under the Code of Conduct. Consequently, ICC fined Haris Rauf and he lost nearly a third of his match fee.
Farhan, on the other hand, faced a reprimand. Although he breached the same level, the ICC issued only a warning. Therefore, he will escape financial penalty this time.
Pakistan Reacts after ICC fines Haris Rauf
The PCB chairman, Mohsin Naqvi, quickly stepped in. Reports suggest he even offered to personally cover Rauf’s fine. Furthermore, several Pakistani commentators defended Rauf, claiming his gesture was misunderstood. Nevertheless, the ICC stressed that provocative celebrations cannot be tolerated.
What It Means Going Forward
This is one of the sternest disciplinary calls in Asia Cup 2025 so far. The ruling underlines that provocative gestures and political undertones have no place in international cricket. Moreover, the decision sends a signal to all players: high-voltage rivalries like India vs Pakistan must be fought with bat and ball, not with taunts.
Meanwhile, Farhan’s warning puts him under the microscope. Another breach could result in heavier sanctions. For Rauf, the financial penalty serves as a clear reminder that actions on the field carry consequences off it.
